PxTone is a sequenced music format by Daisuke "Pixel" Amaya, generating music using premade samples (much like a modtracker file), synthesised voices, and noise generation systems to create a retro nostalgic sound akin to the audio chipsets used in older video game hardware. Pixel has released the music editor and playback library as freeware under no specific license.

Pytone is a ctypes port I wrote during my first years experimenting with programming, as an experiment to use PxTone in my own games. The first release was rather amateurish and had several parts that outright didn't work, but years later someone on IRC asked for an up-to-date version, to which I picked the project back up again, making a more functional, Python 3-compatible version with all features working as they should.

Pytone 0.2.0 has been tested with Python 2.7 and 3.2, though it shouldn't be too much of a stretch to assume it'll work with other versions. There is one limitation that I cannot circumvent, however: as PxTone has only been released in binary format as a Win32 library, this module does not work outside of Windows.
